The route
The trail starts at the Cape St Blaize lighthouse car park and follows the old fisherman's path west along the cliffs to Dana Bay: 13.5 km one way, roughly four hours at a walking pace with stops. It is well marked, mostly single-track and undulating rather than steep.
The short version
Most of our guests walk the first 45 minutes to an hour from the lighthouse and turn back. That section has the cave, the highest cliffs, the best whale-watching and the dassies sunning on the rocks.
The full version
Leave a car at Dana Bay or arrange a taxi back. Start early - by nine in summer the cliffs are hot - and carry two litres of water; there is none on the route. Wear proper shoes: the rock is slippery in the first section.
What you will see
Coastal fynbos, rock hyrax (dassies), black oystercatchers on the shoreline, and, from June to November, southern right whales. Dolphins are common all year.
Dogs
On a lead, yes. The cliffs are unfenced.
